Last Day in Singapore, Flying Home Tonight

2nd October 2023 Singapore Airlines delivered our bags to our hotel at 9.30 this morning earlier than expected. Their overall handling of the issue has been excellent. We could finally change into a fresh set of clothes and after breakfast and shower, we decided we just spend some time in Katong where the hotel is located. It is already 32 C and humid so some time spent in air conditioned comfort is favoured. There is a large shopping centre, Parkway Parade, only a short distance from the hotel, so we head there. It is a LendLease development and has a good range of food outlets and shopping options. We had lunch there and only ventured back to the hotel at around 5 pm when we needed to catch a taxi to the airport. There is little doubt that Changi is still one of the World's best airports and check in and immigration clearance are a breeze. we had lots of time on our hands so did a bit of duty free shopping. Alcohol here is up to half the cost of Sydney airport. By the size of the...

Last Morning in Evian before Flying to Singapore

Image
30th September /1st October It is another beautiful day weather wise, we finished packing and checked out of Le Verniaz by 10 am, compressing our bags back into the Passat and finding a shady carpark for it until we are ready to leave. We took our final funicular ride down to the village at 10 am, and wandered around to get some exercise before what is going to be a lot of sitting down later on. It is Saturday morning and the village is busier than we have seen it since we have been here. Most of the shops are open and everyone appears to be out enjoying the sunshine. One last photo to remember Evian by Somehow we end up at one of our favourite cafes for what has become a familiar brunch of coffee and a baguette or panini of ham and cheese.  Soon lunch time officially starts in town, shops close and restaurants fill. Lunch time Finally we need to head back up the hill and get in the car and drive to Geneva. We left Evian a bit after 2pm. It is not a long drive distance wise, ...

Drive to Gruyeres, Switzerland

29th September 2023 It is our last day in Evian before flying on to Singapore from Geneva at 7.30pm tomorrow. At least this gives us another morning in Evian before we drive to Geneva. Another beautiful sunny day awaits us with temperatures in the mid 20's expected. We depart from La Verniaz at 9 am to drive to Gruyeres in Switzerland, expecting to arrive at around 10.45 am. The road takes us through small and very old French villages along the lakeside and about 15 minutes after crossing the Swiss border, the scenery changes dramatically to very green lush fields and stunning mountain backdrops.  We arrived in Gruyeres on time, and like many old Medieval villages, there is no car or parking access in town. Several car parks are provided outside the town and when we arrive the upper one closest to the town is full, but there are plenty of spaces at the next level down. There is a steep but short walk up to the town. Scenery on the walk up to the village We were not really pre...
